Yung Gravy Takes Checkers & Rally’s Down the “Fryway to the Flava Zone”
Few songs summon 1986 faster than “Danger Zone.” It also happens to come from the same year Checkers & Rally’s opened its first restaurant.
For the brand’s 40th anniversary, Partners + Napier saw an opportunity to turn that shared history into “Fryway to the Flava Zone,” a new version recorded by Yung Gravy for Checkers & Rally’s new, limited-time Flava Max menu. The track became the soundtrack to a maximalist music video filled with fry mullets, a fry keytar, a Pontiac “Fry-ero” and plenty of other ’80s references.
To help turn the idea into a reality, Partners + Napier brought in G7 to lead the music dealmaking behind it. Our team navigated the music licensing rights surrounding the original song and structured the partnership with BMG’s Brand Partnerships team to have Yung Gravy write and record the custom track.
The result gave Checkers & Rally’s a familiar piece of pop culture that could be remixed into something entirely its own. The campaign is running across TV, CTV, YouTube, social and other digital media. Read more and watch the full music video on Ad Age.
